  1. Can anyone tell me the different between 6061 and 7005 Aluminium ?

    Is 7005 superior to 6061 ?

I ask this question with specific reference to frame material.

    Thanks in advance -R

  2. 7005 is about twice as strong and does not need as expensive post weld heat treatment, just
artificial ageing. In bikes, though, this only nets a small weight savings, as stiffness and fatigue
resistance complicate things for the gram shavers. The practical weight limit for a 56cm road bike
in alum is probably2.5 lbs. Good butting makes as much difference as any simple alloy changes. Tom
