In addition to above question would like to know if people have used and
like both the salsa flip lock and or salsa lip lock clamps?
More generally are there any rules regarding frame material and the chosen
tightening mechanism?

The paint is probably thicker than 0.05mm (50 microns) anyway, and the
OD tolerance on aluminium tubes is definitely more than that (Easton
state 5thou which is 0.13mm). Use a nominal 34.9 clamp on a nominal 35
tube to your heart's content.

I've used the latter and it is a superb product -- the design, with
the bolt going into a nut that can rotates in the vertical plane works
great and its possible to tighten the bolt quite a lot without the
bolt bending.
