Currently torn between the 2015 Felt F5x ( Shimano 105 5800's) and the 2015 Cannondale Superx Sram Rival Disc. I'm leaning towards the Felt, but much prefer sram components. I could probably get the Felt and switch out to Sram, but not sure how cost efficient it'd be.
Both bikes seem great and very comparable. The Superx Rival is as high I can go, in regards to budget. I will be using either bike for commuting, some light touring, and possible amateur cyclocross races in the future. I'd appreciate any tips, opinions, and advice!
Buying a bike with plans to swap out the drivetrain right up front is expensive and kind of dumb. I prefer SRAM, too, but I wouldn't let that get between me and a bike that ticked all my other hot buttons. Of course, more riders prefer Shimano, resale of the components or a whole Shimano-equipped bike would be easier.
Remember that these are both full-on cyclocross bikes. They have close-ratio double chainsets for racing in the dirt and the carbon frames aren't meant to take touring amenities like racks and fenders. Swapping for a 50- or 52-tooth outer chainring, and requisite longer chains, maybe, on either bike would be easy, though.
I visited the Felt website yesterday and got my first look at the F1 PR. Wow! It wouldn't be a good cross bike, but what a tool for slicing rough roads. That's my favorite.
