I am presented with an opportunity to purchase a mint condition but used 2002 Brodie Brat for about $500 Cdn, or $350 US. I have done a bit of research but have not arrive with much info about Brodie bikes. Is this manufacturer any good? Is this particular bike any good?

The link below will take you to a description of the bike. They are not terrible bikes, but they tend to be mid-grade entry level rides. They seem to be a decent bike to learn on and beat up until you wanted/needed to get something high performance. The specs on this bike are somewhat suspect, but should get you through a couple of seasons of fun. Enjoy.
