Take a look at Sheldon Browns pages. On their he demonstates checking frame trueness by tying a piece of string to one rear drop out, running it around the head tube and securing it at the other drop out. The distance from either side of the seat tube to the string as it passes should be the same. There is bound to be a piece on checking the forks too,
