1986 Raleigh Winterizing

Heya, I have a 1986 Raleigh Tange 2 rocky 2 bike, have only put 500 miles on it, and is in fairly good condition. Only last week have I decided to bike to work, however the winter is drawing near. Wondering if its a bad idea to ride this due to rust? I think its made of steel so dont know if I should worry.
