I have the 9-30 7 speed cogs on my bike. I am considering trying to set them up as indexed but wonder if anyone has tried this? Was it successful? None of the individual cogs are ramped but the 3 small ones seem to be "twisted" , does this cog set index or do you always have to over-shift? If indexing is possible, what's the cog spacing ? 5mm ? And what shifter should be used with drops ? Sorry for so many questions but if someones been through this all before it would be a great help.

Is that a Shimano 6 or 7 sp cassette hub with three special Moulton cogs?

Not if it's from 1984...
I'd be willing to bet it's a Suntour freewheel, with a couple custom cogs at the inside. Suntour "New Winner" freewheels went down to 11 teeth on a six-speed setup, so 9 on a 7-speed isn't a stretch. (Really fuzzy memories of a Bicycle Guide magazine review surfacing here...) If it *is* a New Winner freewheel, then the spacing isn't consistent between the cogs and indexing probably isn't possible.

mine's an 8 speed with a Sachs Neos derailleur and a 8 speed Shimano downtubelever. Freewheel could be an suntour with the three Moulton endcogs, and it works well enough. It's been a long time ago but I don't think if I had to mess about with cogspacing much.
