  1. been doing some longer rides this year.have done over 100 several times but always seem to be in the 6 1/2 to 7 hours range. i usually ride solo so the wind can be a factor. what type of trainning should i be doing to increase my speed? my base miles are approx 150 to 200 per week. this includes 5 days of a 20 mile daily commute.thanks for any advise

  2. Your 20ml rides to work will be a good base.

To do a 100 under 6 hours you need to average around 17mph. I would concentrate on keeping your average above that for progressively longer rides. So start by doing 50 at 17mph, then move it up a step to 60 at 17mph and so on until you get to 100. This should help to train your body to maintain the higher speed for progressively longer periods of time.
