Hi all,
I'm thinking of entering a 10K swim in March 04, but I'm very worried about dehydration. I'm not
sure how to swim it, i.e. without stopping, or stopping to have a drink say every 3K.
Any advice would be appriciated

In Australia, one 8K was held on an oval course, with a float at one point, on which swimmers could
set drinks bottles for use each lap. There were also people stationed there who would monitor your
blood pressure if you wanted. I put a drink bottle there, but it was kind of a nuisance. Since then
I have swum such races without benefit of water, having hydrated thoroughly before hand.
If it is a race requiring a paddler, you can have the paddler wear a wineskin or camelback filled
with your favorite electrolyte beverage or water.
I have found that I swallow enough water by accident. If you get dehydrated in workouts, then you'll
need to drink along the way. If not, then don't worry about it.
March of 04? does that mean you are in Oz or that the race is indoors?

...or is it in Florida. If so, lemme know where.

Ooops, forgot to say that the swim will be indoors in a 25M pool and in the UK.

Then you'll have to check the rules for the race, but I've never seen a long race like that in a
pool, so I don't know what to say. But, like I said, in that case, I always swallow enough water by
accident during a workout so that I wouldn't need to worry about dehydration.
