1.5" steerer forks poss in 1 1/8" headtube?

Hi,

I have a 2006 carbon scott ransom with 1 1/8" steerer forks. I have seen lots of good offers for 1.5" and 1.5" tapered steerer forks. It appears that the head tube could accommodate a larger steerer is this possible with the right headset??

In a word, No.

Head tube inner diameter is set to match the press fit cups of headsets. It's not just a matter of having a tube "wide enough" for the steerer. A bearing cup for a 1.5" crown will not fit a head tube designed for 1.125".

In the case of an integrated headset, you'd need ridiculously thin bearing units (which are probably impossible to achieve.
