Doesnt the type of terrain, the riders fitness level, and the bikes gearing play a far greater role in determining how quickly and efficiently a rider can pedal. And what about the argument that longer cranks are more suited to certain types of riding, such as climbing or touring. Is this just a cop-out for riders who struggle to maintain a high cadence on shorter cranks.
Furthermore, if longer cranks are indeed beneficial for cadence and leg speed, why do so many professional riders opt for shorter cranks. Is it because theyre just not aware of the benefits of longer cranks, or is it because theyve found that shorter cranks provide a more efficient and effective pedaling motion. And what about the biomechanics of pedaling, surely the movement of the legs and the angle of the knee and ankle joints play a far greater role in determining cadence and leg speed than the length of the crank.
