Whats the most effective resistance training exercises for cycling acceleration that actually target the muscles used in a real-world cycling scenario, rather than just relying on generic gym exercises. So much of the advice out there seems to focus on exercises that work the quads, hamstrings, and glutes, but completely ignore the fact that a cyclists power output is also heavily dependent on their core and upper body strength.
Can someone please provide a list of exercises that actually simulate the movement and muscle activation patterns of cycling, rather than just throwing up a generic list of squats and deadlifts. And by simulate, I dont mean just doing leg press or leg extensions, I mean exercises that actually challenge the riders entire kinetic chain, much like a Wattbike or an actual bike on the road.
Furthermore, whats the optimal resistance training protocol for for maximizing power output during short, all-out sprints. Is it high-intensity interval training, or is it better to focus on lower-intensity, longer-duration efforts. And whats the role of volume vs. intensity in resistance training for cycling acceleration.
