04 / Write, share and respond
Post and share with care.
These guides describe the signed-in participation tools already built into CyclingForums. Their controls remain permission-aware while registration is closed for launch preparation.
01 / Join the discussion
Start a discussion or write a reply
Approved signed-in members can start discussions and reply where the forum permits it.
Posting controls appear only when your account and the destination forum are allowed to use them. New discussions need a clear title and message; replies stay in the thread you are reading. Imported posts remain preserved and cannot be edited through the new composer.
Posting depends on account and forum permissions. Registration remains closed during launch preparation.
-
01
ChooseOpen the right forum or thread
Start a discussion from a suitable forum, or reply from the discussion you are reading.
-
02
WriteAdd a clear title and message
Describe the question, experience or useful detail naturally; use formatting only where it helps.
-
03
CheckPreview before publishing
Review the rendered preview, then publish when the wording and attachments are correct.
02 / Add context
Format, quote and link clearly
Use the composer toolbar for structure, quotes, links, lists, code and tables.
The composer writes BBCode and keeps a live preview beside the editing workflow. Quote only the part needed for context. Normal web addresses become clickable links; external destinations open in a new tab. A URL posted alone may appear as a compact link card, while a URL inside ordinary text remains an inline link.
-
01
SelectChoose the relevant text
Select text before applying bold, italic, a link or a quote where appropriate.
-
02
InsertUse the toolbar
Add lists, code, media or a table without needing to remember every BBCode tag.
-
03
PreviewCheck the rendered result
Confirm nested quotes, links and formatting look right before publishing.
03 / Add media
Add and manage images or attachments
Managed uploads are stored by CyclingForums, attached to the published post and kept under your account.
Upload through the composer rather than pasting an unrelated download address. A direct supported image URL pasted for publication is privately retrieved once, safety-checked and stored as a normal managed attachment, so readers do not repeatedly contact the original host. Add useful alt text that describes the image’s relevant content. Your attachments lists your managed files, storage use, view totals and lifecycle history, and provides explicit actions for files you own.
Managed attachments require a signed-in account. Files are never automatically deleted by a maintenance report.
-
01
AddUpload or insert an image
Choose the composer’s media control, or paste a direct supported image URL for local capture.
-
02
DescribeWrite useful alt text
Describe what matters in the image rather than repeating its filename or saying only ‘image’.
-
03
ManageOpen Your attachments
Review storage, usage and history; attachment removal is always an explicit action.
04 / Keep your work
Save, restore and clear drafts
The composer protects unfinished writing locally and can also sync a private draft for signed-in members.
A draft is saved while you write. Device-local recovery protects the browser you are using; signed-in members may also see a newer private account draft. If two copies differ, the composer tells you and lets you restore or discard deliberately. A successfully published post clears its matching draft only after publication is confirmed, so a failed request does not erase your writing.
-
01
WriteLet the composer save
Keep writing normally; the save indicator shows when the draft was last retained.
-
02
ReturnRestore the right copy
When a saved draft is found, review its time and choose Restore draft or Discard.
-
03
PublishWait for confirmation
The matching draft is cleared after the post succeeds, not merely when Submit is clicked.
05 / Respond safely
React, follow notifications and report a post
Use lightweight reactions for useful replies, notifications for direct activity and reports for content needing review.
Reactions acknowledge a post without adding another reply. Signed-in members receive private in-app notifications for relevant activity and can optionally enable reply email from Your account. Report sends the selected post and your reason to the moderation queue; it does not publicly accuse the author or automatically remove the content.
Reactions, notifications and reports require a signed-in account; reports always require human moderation review.
-
01
ReactAcknowledge a useful post
Choose the reaction that best fits instead of posting a one-word reply.
-
02
ReviewOpen notifications
Use the notification centre to return to replies, quotes and other relevant activity.
-
03
ReportFlag content privately
Use Report, explain the issue clearly and leave the decision to a moderator.
06 / Correct a post
Edit a post you just published
Eligible local posts can be corrected during the configured editing window.
Use Edit on your own recent local post to correct its text, formatting, attachment placement or image alt text. Preview the revised result before saving. The edit window and account permissions are enforced by the server; imported historical posts, another member’s posts and local posts outside the allowed window cannot be changed through this form.
Editing is limited to eligible local posts within the configured editing window.
-
01
OpenChoose Edit on your post
The control appears only when the post is eligible for editing.
-
02
CorrectUpdate text or media placement
Keep the discussion meaning intact while fixing the specific error or attachment.
-
03
PreviewSave the checked revision
Review the rendered post, then save before the editing window closes.
