Personalization is private by design. Signed-in shortcuts, drafts and bounded reading continuity travel with the account while retaining a fast local cache.

Understand the home page

The home page combines search, forum discovery, popular subjects, recent activity, history and private shortcuts.

The homepage works without an account. Guests can use the hero search, Browse forums, the forum snapshot, Find your corner, Worth a read, What are you working on?, the quick-search tags, Latest discussions, the cycling timeline, Across the forum, the active-forum panel and the About section. Sections with no available records are omitted. Signed-in members get the same public homepage plus followed-content, Trending now, From your follows, feed-scope preferences and layout customization when those areas have data.

The public homepage is available to everyone. Live, Trending now, From your follows and homepage customization are available to signed-in members.

Follow the things you care about

Follow a forum, topic or thread and gather those choices on your account page.

Following is a private way to shape your reading. Follow a forum from its page, a topic from its directory page or a thread while reading it. The account page lists each group and lets you unfollow without hunting for the original page.

Following forums, topics and threads is available to signed-in members.

Use Latest discussions

See ten recent public updates; signed-in members can choose a private scope for the parts of the forum they follow.

The home page shows a bounded list of the latest permission-safe discussions to guests and members. Guests see the public All forums view. Signed-in members can choose All forums, Forums you follow or Discussions you contributed to. If a narrow view has no recent updates, the page explains that it has fallen back to the public latest list.

Watch Live activity

Live is a signed-in activity centre that checks for new discussions and replies every ten seconds.

Live uses the same bounded Latest discussions feed as the home page. It checks for changed activity without refreshing the whole page, pauses new content until you choose to reveal it, and keeps your selected feed scope.

Live is available to signed-in members.

Customize your home page

Signed-in members can change the layout, feed scope and private shortcuts that shape their home page; guests get the same useful device-local shortcuts without layout controls.

Customize homepage is not available to guests. Signed-in members can open it to hide or reorder populated home sections and reset the layout. The complete member preference surface is: section visibility, section order, Latest discussions scope, pinned forums, saved searches, followed tools, forum recommendation feedback and topic recommendation feedback. Forum/topic/thread follows and read positions also shape the member’s home experience, and are managed from their content pages or Your account. Signed-in shortcuts, drafts, reading history and recommendation context use a local cache backed by the private member account. Guests can still use device-local conveniences, but their data does not follow them to another device.

Homepage customization is available to signed-in members.
