02 / Accounts and identity

Accounts, identity and access.

Public browsing remains open. Registration is paused during launch preparation; existing local accounts can be maintained from Your account, while imported posts retain their original identity and history and cannot be claimed.

What you can do today

CyclingForums is an active forum in transition: public reading is open, new registration is paused during launch preparation and historical posts remain read-only.

You can browse sections, search published discussions and read threads without signing in. Existing local accounts can use private follows, saved preferences, unread positions and member activity views. Imported discussions keep their original attribution and cannot be edited or claimed.

  1. 01
    BrowseRead public discussions

Open forum sections, topic pages and threads without an account.

  2. 02

Follow forums, topics and threads, tune your homepage and open Live activity.

02

02 / Create an identity

Create a new account

New accounts are local CyclingForums identities. They do not claim or rewrite an imported forum profile.

When registration is opened later, it will create a separate local account with its own verified email and password. Historical posts keep the username and attribution recorded at import; no source password, email or identity is copied into a new account. Registration and imported-account claiming are currently disabled.

Account creation and imported-account claiming are currently unavailable.

03 / Account access

Sign in and manage your account

Sign in to the local account you created, then use Your account to maintain your details and sessions.

The public sign-in form accepts a local username or email. Your account is the private home for your username, verified email, password, display time zone, active sessions and followed content. You can sign out from the header at any time.

  1. 01
    OpenChoose Sign in

Use the header link or go directly to /login.

  2. 02
    EnterUse your local details

Enter your username or email and the password created during registration.

  3. 03
    ManageOpen Your account

Update details, choose a time zone, review sessions and manage follows.

04

04 / Stay in control

Manage your account security

Change your password, review signed-in sessions and set your time zone from Your account.

Your account keeps its own security surface separate from browsing. Changing your username, email or password happens in three dedicated forms; changing your password requires your current password and signs out every other session. The sessions list shows this device and any other active session, with a one-click sign-out for the ones that are not yours right now. Time zone is chosen from a list of IANA zones and controls how timestamps are displayed to you.

  1. 01
    UpdateChange username, email or password

Use the three dedicated forms; changing your password needs your current password.

  2. 02
    ReviewCheck signed-in sessions

This device is always listed; sign out any other session you do not recognise.

  3. 03
    SetChoose your time zone

Pick an IANA zone so timestamps across the site display in your local time.

05

05 / Confirm it's you

Verify your email address

New accounts and changed email addresses both need a one-time link before they take effect.

Registration sends a verification link to your new account's email; changing your email from Your account sends a fresh link to the new address while your current email keeps working until it is confirmed. Every verification link can be used once and expires 24 hours after it is sent. Requesting a new one replaces any link still outstanding.

  1. 01
    ReceiveOpen the email

Look for the confirmation email at the address you just entered.

  2. 02
ConfirmUse the link within 24 hours

Select the one-time link before it expires; each link works only once.

  3. 03
ContinueKeep using the old address until confirmed

An email change only takes effect once the new address is verified.

06

06 / Recover access

Reset a forgotten password

Request a one-time reset link when you cannot sign in with your local account password.

Enter the username or private email associated with your local account. CyclingForums gives the same public response whether or not a matching eligible account exists, so the form does not reveal private account details. A valid reset link is single-use and time-limited; choosing a new password signs out existing sessions.

  1. 01
    RequestOpen Reset password

Enter your local username or private email address.

  2. 02
    OpenUse the email link

Follow the newest reset message; expired or already-used links cannot change the account.

  3. 03
    SecureChoose a new password

Use at least 12 characters, then sign in again with the new password.

07

07 / Choose what is public

Manage your public profile and email notices

Keep your biography and broad location separate from private account and delivery settings.

Your optional biography and broad location appear publicly on your member profile. Links, domains and email addresses are not accepted in those public fields. Your account email remains private. In-app notifications are always available; reply email is optional and can be enabled or disabled from the Notifications setting without changing in-app delivery.

  1. 01
    ProfileAdd optional public details

Write a short biography and broad location without contact details or links.

  2. 02
    DeliveryChoose reply email

Enable email for replies and quotes only if you want those messages outside the site.

  3. 03
    ReviewOpen Notifications

View, mark read or dismiss private activity and account notices.

08

08 / Close an account

Permanently anonymise your account

Closing a local account replaces its public name with a random Rider alias and permanently disables sign-in.

The Close account control requires your current password, a deliberate confirmation and a one-time email link. After confirmation, every session is signed out and the account cannot be restored or used to sign in. Published posts remain in their discussion context under the new anonymous Rider name; preserved historical attribution is not rewritten by this local-account action.

Account anonymisation is permanent. Posts remain; the local public username and ability to sign in do not.

  1. 01
    RequestStart from Close account

Enter your current password and confirm that you understand the action is permanent.

  2. 02
    ConfirmUse the email link

Review the final warning and confirm with the one-time link before it expires.

  3. 03
    CompleteAccount access ends

Sessions are revoked, login is disabled and public local contributions use the assigned Rider alias.
