Reflective tape for Ironman?

They're saying that you have to have boatloads of reflective tape on your body for the Marathon at
Ironman Wisconsin. My questions are:

1) Where does one buy this stuff?

2) Does it stick pretty well, or do you have to sew it on?

3) Do they make allowances for things like shoes that already have reflectors on them, or are they
anal about having tape where they say you need tape? Also, my water-bottle holder has reflectors
on it--will this count for the reflectors on my shirt? What about a blinking light?

Any hardware store. You can get big pieces and cut out letters or smiley faces, or get some
pre-shaped ones. They will probably also have at the expo.

Usually sticks pretty well.

Yes for allowances on the shoes. Stick a couple of pieces on the front and back each of your shorts
and run shirt. No on the water bottle holder. You may or may not have that with you. No need for a
blinking light.

Harold,

Last year at IM Moo, they didn't care if you had a spotlight attached to your chest, a glow stick in
your underwear, and a police siren on your bike...you still had to have the tape on...I didn't see
anyone get DQed, but they talked a tough game.

The stuff is really no hassle, it sticks well...I had some on my shoes still 6 months after the
race....makes for a nice reflection in your finishers photo:)

At every IM I've done (7) the first few miles of the run has been covered with various sizes and
shapes of "sticky" dots. Most of the stuff doesn't stick after it gets wet from sweat.

My advice? Buy the cheapest you can find, stick it on, and then forget about it. It probably won't
be there very long, but you have followed the spirit of the rule by starting out with it on. And
IIRC, the rule says you have to start with it, not that it has to be there at the end.

I doubt if anyone has ever been DQ'd (or even talked to) about it.

In contrast to some of the other postings, I've never worn reflective tape and never been stopped.
It also maybe more enforced based on what time you're leaving T2. I've raced almost every IMNA race
(IMFL, IMC, IMUSA, IMCal....etc)

you will be stopped in kona-----but way before the race. when you check in your T2 bag you have to
show the checker the reflective tape on shorts and shoes, for a total of 6 spots. maybe it's 8, with
the shoes getting front and back, as well. they usually have the reflective stickers there (usually
with a sponsor logo on them), but they've run out toward the end of check-in in the past. summary:
can't check in your gear unless it has the stickers already on. peggy
